Projects

ASSOC Training ASSOC is a group of software applications, communication networks, and network interfaces linking together specific organizations conducting homeland security and homeland defense activities. This group of applications and services was integrated to provide functions and capabilities useful to users conducting homeland security and homeland defense missions.

AutoNationAutoNation wanted to update text-based, video, and classroom training to eLearning courses in order to “Integrate learning with everyday work.”

Goals of the Project were to 1) Mix training, practice, and simulation online, 2) Use eLearning to prepare employees for real-world simulations and on-the-job (OTJ) practice, 3) Let eLearning outcomes drive OTJ actions, 4) Measure performance improvement in operational and dollar terms.

CoBRA Training CoBRA® provides critical resources and capabilities needed during any emergency response. The tools, databases, checklists, and incident reporting capabilities that are embedded in the CoBRA® system facilitate the coordination of response to WMD or other large-scale incidents by any responder including fire, hazmat, law enforcement, emergency medical, bomb response and other public safety personnel. Examples of Reusable Learning Objects (RLOs) The St Petersburg College Instructional Technology Services Department defines an RLO as " a resource that can be used to help enhance the intended learning outcome. To some people it could be collection of web pages. To others a learning object requires a certain level of interaction."

Basic Port Security The Basic Port Security Course offers an introduction into the Port environment and its main security elements. There has been considerable correspondence at the national level regarding the vulnerabilities of our ports.  Topics of concern include container security, diverse training issues, access control, personnel screening, vehicle and small watercraft inspection, control of cruise line access, and storage of hazardous materials.

Printed Materials The Traffic Stops Course is a video and training support package for law enforcement officers who are “on the beat.”  The focus is on a routine traffic stop or inspections through a vehicle checkpoint by local/state law enforcement, federal transportation enforcement, or military police inspection.  The course takes traditional training provided law enforcement in this environment and expands it to scenarios involving terrorism and WMD.

Unsecure Office ActivityDay to day activities within an office can help establish an environment in which it is difficult for terrorists to gain knowledge needed to successfully attack DoD personnel, facilities, material, or DoD contractors.  The goal of this activity was to take the learner through a NON-SECURE office environment where they can choose what would constitute a security risk for intelligence collection and targeting for terrorists.

Video Presentation This RLO was developed by the St Petersburg College Instructional Technology group. The base file was then distributed to other College departments to be reused and applied based on the department’s original content. This example is an introduction to ASSOC (then called HOLS) software training.
